Apple has rolled out the “tap to pay” feature on iPhone to accept contactless payment. This feature will take payment from contactless credit and debit cards and other digital wallets.
The new tap to pay feature will allow small businesses large retailers use their iPhones to accept Apple Pay and other digital wallets through a simple tap. To make contactless payments, no additional hardware will be required.
The tap to pay feature on iPhone will be available to the payment platforms, the developers of the app will integrate it into their apps. Apple has done a partnership with leading payment networks like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
The New Feature Lets Newer iPhones Accept Contactless Payments
While talking about the new feature, the vice president of Apple, Jennifer Bailey, says,
“As more and more consumers are tapping to pay with digital wallets and credit cards, Tap to Pay on iPhone will provide businesses with a secure, private, and easy way to accept contactless payments and unlock new checkout experiences using the power, security, and convenience of iPhone. In collaboration with payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks, we’re making it easier than ever for businesses of all sizes — from solopreneurs to large retailers — to seamlessly accept contactless payments and continue to grow their business.”
The tap to pay on iPhone is not yet ready to use, but it has arrived on iOS 15.4 beta 2. It enables the feature on iPhone XS and above models. The old iPhones with NFC like iPhone 6, 7, and 8 models are not compatible as of now.
How to Use Tap to Pay Feature on iPhone?
To make payment using the tap to feature, the users will need to hold the iPhone or Apple Watch to pay with Apple Pay.
The contactless cards or wallet near the iPhone and the payment will be processed using NFC technology. Apple said all transactions are encrypted and processed using Secure Element.
