How to Fix Crawl Errors in Google Webmaster Tools

Looking at 12,000 crawl errors staring back at you in Webmaster Tools can make your hopes of eradicating those errors seem like an insurmountable task that will never be accomplished. The key is to know which errors are the most crippling to your site, and which ones are simply informational and can be brushed aside so you can deal with the real meaty problems. The reason its important to religiously keep an eye on your errors is the impact they have on your users and Googles crawler.

Having thousands of 404 errors, especially ones for URLs that are being indexed or linked to by other pages pose a potentially poor user experience for your users. If they are landing on multiple 404 pages in one session, their trust for your site decreases and of course leads to frustration and bounces.

Google Not Indexing Your Sitemap URLs? Might Be A Canonical Issue

A Google Webmaster Help thread has a webmaster all upset that Google shows that they have indexed none of the URLs they submitted via the XML Sitemap file. Obviously, this can be concerning to any webmaster.

The thing is, you need to be careful what Sitemap file you submit. If you verify a non-www version with Google Webmaster Tools and submit a www version of your sitemap, or visa versa, Google may be very literal and show you that they didn't index any non-www versions of your URL.

All the URLs listed in your XML Sitemap are non www. and they all permanently redirect to the www. version (which is your preferred domain). That explains why these specific URLs are not indexed. In order to fix that, you'll need to specify the right URLs with www., resubmit your Sitemap and wait for it to be processed again

So technically, it is an "easy fix" and the site is indeed being indexed. But a report like this can be scary to see in Google Webmaster Tools.

How to Open multiple links by a single click

Hello fellow Bloggers. A reader just asked about opening more than 1 link by clicking a link. I am presenting down the html code for that. You can open as many links by clicking single anchor text link. All the links will open in new tabs.

To open link in new tab

A regular link can be opened in new tab. Just place target='_blank' after the URL.
Like this
<a href="URL link" target="_blank">Text to Display</a>

To open multiple links in new tabs

To open more than one links just add the following code
onclick="window.open(&quot;YOUR_2nd_URL&quot;);"

Your link html will look like this
<a href="1st Link" onclick="window.open(&quot;2nd_Link&quot;);">Link Text</a>

Just take this example Blogger SEO by UK . This link will open our homepage in current tab and 2nd link in new tab. But the text shown is one for both link tabs. Down is the html code.
<a href="http://www.blogtipsuk.com/" onclick="window.open(&quot;http://www.blogtipsuk.com/2015/05/how-to-make-money-with-infolinks-on-blogger.html&quot;);">Blogger SEO by UK</a>

SEO - Pagination with rel=next and rel=prev

Much like rel=canonical acts a strong hint for duplicate content, you can now use the HTML link elements rel=next and rel=prev to indicate the relationship between component URLs in a paginated series. Throughout the web, a paginated series of content may take many shapesit can be an article divided into several component pages, or a product category with items spread across several pages, or a forum thread divided into a sequence of URLs. Now, if you choose to include rel=next and rel=prev markup on the component pages within a series, youre giving Google a strong hint that youd like us to:

Consolidate indexing properties, such as links, from the component pages/URLs to the series as a whole (i.e., links should not remain dispersed between page-1.html, page-2.html, etc., but be grouped with the sequence).
Send users to the most relevant page/URLtypically the first page of the series.

The relationship between component URLs in a series can now be indicated to Google through rel=next and rel=prev.

Outlining your options

Here are three options for a series:
Leave whatever you have exactly as-is. Paginated content exists throughout the web and well continue to strive to give searchers the best result, regardless of the pages rel=next/rel=prev HTML markupor lack thereof.
If you have a view-all page, or are considering a view-all page, see our post on View-all in search results.
Hint to Google the relationship between the component URLs of your series with rel=next and rel=prev. This helps us more accurately index your content and serve to users the most relevant page (commonly the first page). Implementation details below.

Implementing rel=next and rel=prev

If you prefer option 3 (above) for your site, lets get started! Lets say you have content paginated into the URLs:

http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=1
http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2
http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=3
http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=4

On the first page, http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=1, youd include in the <head> section:
<link rel="next" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2" />

On the second page, http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2:
<link rel="prev" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=1" />
<link rel="next" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=3" />

On the third page, http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=3:
<link rel="prev" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2" />
<link rel="next" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=4" />

And on the last page, http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=4:
<link rel="prev" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=3" />

A few points to mention:
The first page only contains rel=next and no rel=prev markup.
Pages two to the second-to-last page should be doubly-linked with both rel=next and rel=prev markup.
The last page only contains markup for rel=prev, not rel=next.
rel=next and rel=prev values can be either relative or absolute URLs (as allowed by the <link> tag). And, if you include a <base> link in your document, relative paths will resolve according to the base URL.
rel=next and rel=prev only need to be declared within the <head> section, not within the document <body>.
We allow rel=previous as a syntactic variant of rel=prev links.
rel="next" and rel="previous" on the one hand and rel="canonical" on the other constitute independent concepts. Both declarations can be included in the same page. For example, http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2&sessionid=123 may contain:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=2/>
<link rel="prev" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=1&sessionid=123" />
<link rel="next" href="http://www.example.com/article?story=abc&page=3&sessionid=123" />

rel=prev and rel=next act as hints to Google, not absolute directives.
When implemented incorrectly, such as omitting an expected rel="prev" or rel="next" designation in the series, we'll continue to index the page(s), and rely on our own heuristics to understand your content.

Paid Marketing is one the crucial marketing strategy in Digital Marketing. What do understand by Quality Score ?

Quality Score is a metric which is calculated for each keyword between 1 to 10. The QS defines the quality of keyword compared with Ads and Landing Page. This metric is used to calculate the AdRank, which is used to calculate the ad position.

What is the impact of Quality score on CPC and Ad Position ?

Quality Score is inversely proportional to CPC and Directly proportional to Ad Position. That means higher QS means lower cost and higher position.

Part 2
What is your biggest PPC win? [01:42]
You want them to discuss specific metrics, campaign struggles, and their step-by-step process.

Whats Quality Score? [02:06]
They should know that a Quality Score within AdWords is the score Google gives you on the relevancy of your ads to your landing pages. This is key because the higher your quality score is, the lower you pay per click, so your cost per acquisition drops.
Dive deeper and ask them how they increase Quality Scores to see their understanding of the attributes that affect Quality Score.

What tools do you use? [02:44]
You can find out their preferences and assess where their experience lies.
If you need someone to manage lots of campaigns, they need experience using robust tools. Someone more junior might use Power Editor or Google AdWords Editor.

How would you decide which ad platform to start on? [03:23]
Find out their methodology and how much they think you should spend to start with.

What would you do for [example campaign]? [03:58]
Find out how they think they could improve one of your campaigns for more PPC leads. They should discuss negative keywords, relevant ad copies, landing page adjustments, and more specifics on exactly what theyd do.

You can take this one step further by giving them a paid homework assignment with a campaign brief and see what kind of campaign theyre able to put together.

How To SEO Optimise Your Social Media Profiles

Mention the term SEO and what do you think of? Websites? Blogs, Google? They're all correct, but what most people don't consider is that it's not limited to just sites. Social media profiles and pages can be optimized as well. We put so much work into them that it's easy to forget that there are many other little things that improve the chances of your page appearing in search engines.

While optimizing your site is an important part of any SEO strategy, make sure you bring your social media pages into the mix as well.

Common Optimization Methods

Get A Custom URL

When you set up a page, you're given the option to change your URL. In some cases like Twitter, your username will act as your URL address (twitter.com/jamesthomas2211), but when you're given the opportunity, change it. It's a well known fact that search engines scan URLs for keywords so give them every opportunity to find you.

Take Advantage Of The 'About' Section

The 'About' section is the best place to optimize your page and ensure that keywords and links are provided in this. Since most sites only allow a small section to summarize your page (with the option to go to a general About page, it's best to work within these constraints and include relevant keywords and links in it. Also, don't neglect other sections like company description, address or opening hours.

Also, worth mentioning is that on Facebook, the type of category you choose will affect the information that appears on the 'About' box. For example, if you choose local business, your About section will provide information like address and opening hours. Choosing a category like 'Website' will display your page's short description.

Do Keyword Research

Keywords play a massive part in any SEO strategy and it's the same for when you're optimising your social media pages. You should identify what keywords are associated with your site. If people are looking for you, what terms would they use to find you? What terms would you use to describe your site's content?When you've decided upon a number of terms to use, you should research the type of keywords that are available. A good place to start with is Keyword Search for Google Adwords, which will list the most common terms relating to your search so you can identify useful keywords. There's nothing to say that you can't use general search terms, but identifying niche or more exact terms will give your pages a better chance of being found.

Optimize Your Updates

All pages give you the option to write a small blurb when you post a link, and it's something you should take advantage of every time. That part will be considered as the main title by search engines so it's best to assume that you will only fit in two lines of text before it's broken off with the "Read More" tag so the aim is to keep it short and sweet. If it's a link to your site, make sure your site URL is included if you're posting something relating to your business.

Change Title & Descriptions

As we've mentioned, while you're able to add your own blurb to a link you've posted, you can do so much more with it. When you upload a link onto your page, you can change the heading and description that's provided. If you're promoting your own blog post, you can edit it to include relevant keywords so that your content has a better chance of being found.The exception to this would be Twitter, which only allows you to include links and nothing more.

Optimize Image Titles
Placing keywords in your images is a small gesture, and won't have as great an effect on your overall SEO strategy since most images are private, but in the cases where your photos will be public (Twitter, Facebook), it's worth doing. Unlike the times where you upload an image on your blog or site, once it's posted, it keeps the same file name and you won't be able to change it unless you remove it and upload it again.So before you upload anything, have a look at the file name first. If it's something generic, change it to something more relevant and include a keyword or two when you can. This also applies to profile pictures as well so make sure you have all of your images named first before you post them.

Link Back To Your Pages

The more inbound links you have, the more favourably Google will look at your page and rank it higher. It's a basic rule of SEO and is the reason why bloggers look for link backs from other sites and blogs. You should do the same when you're dealing with your own accounts and sites.

Find a place on your own site and include links to your social media pages. You can also do this on your other profiles so where appropriate, link to your site and any other social media accounts you have.

Specific Pages

While the major social media sites follow similar guidelines and methods, each site has their own unique features that are worth taking advantage of. Here's a quick run-through of what each site can offer.

Facebook

One part of Facebook that tends to be ignored is the notes section. Highlighted by SEOMOZ, Notes can act as extra 'pages' for your Facebook profile. Alongside the main title and the beginning of your draft, notes are a good way of highlighting your products and services as well as provide further details about competitions and offers you may be running.

Twitter

Not specifically optimisation, but when you're tweeting a link that you know will get retweeted, keep the description as short as possible. The reason for this is that in search engine results, the heading only fits in a small portion of the tweet (roughly 30 - 40 characters).

Therefore, you should place your keywords at the beginning of your tweet so that it's not cut off by Google's search summary. The rest will appear in the meta description underneath it, but the keywords found will originate from the heading so make sure they appear there.

LinkedIn

Outside the general services section and company updates, linking back to your page through LinkedIn is rather limited. However, there is one way of creating extra links and that's through your services page.

Here you are given the option of including three banner images that link to different pages. Each banner can be given a different URL so one could link to your home page, another could link to products and services. Tailor them so that they're linking to places you want your followers to visit.

Google+

One of the major advantages of Google+'s about section is that you can include hyperlinks, saving you space and time as you include those all important keywords. Especially in the case of business pages where you may have numerous pages.

Also worth bearing in mind is that there is no limit to the number of links you include in an update, handy if you're posting numerous links about a particular subject, or want to alert users to new updates or posts from the week.

TRAI Foolishly Released Over 1 Million E-Mail Ids

Link : http://trai.gov.in/Comments/Comments-List003.pdf

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has released the list of email IDs from which it received responses regarding net neutrality or the #SaveTheInternet campaign that rallied the countrys attention around the Net Neutrality issue.

The e-mails leaks happens that all of the emails sent to the TRAI are now publicly visible.

TRAI on March 27 had put up a consultation paper on its website asking users from India to give their views on net neutrality in India. The last day to vote for the campaign was April 24. The list is published on TRAI website and has emails categorized by date; the data is available for all dates between March 27 and April 24, except April 14 and 15. The document can also be searched via keywords.

Every person who has sent an email to TRAI has their email address listed onthis TRAI page, for example, which has a list of 10,801 emails from that campaign. Thats not all;, the TRAI has 16 such lists, and your mail to them might just be within one of those. Further, clicking through the links on this these pages leads to complete emails, many of which have addresses, phone numbers and other personal details in the signatures.

But the worst part of the story is that TRAI website has been attacked soon after #netneutrality email addresses revealed publicly by TRAI itself which means all the email-ids must be with the hackers by now.

Most of the responses sent to TRAI were via Savetheinternet.in a site created by a few proponents of net neutrality in India. unwittingly or is it foolishly TRAI has exposed email address of all those who had submitted their responses and made them publicly available for spammers to scrape. But no one thought their emails would be public when they sent their responses in.

Thanks to TRAI, spammers and database sellers now have email ids of a cohort of 1 million Indians who (largely) support #NetNeutrality.

Google Mobilegeddon Algorithm Update

"Mobilegeddon could be bad news for 40% of top websites"

USATODAY.com

Mobilegeddon has arrived. Google today updated its algorithm to rank sites it labels as mobile-friendly higher on mobile search results. Because the companys search engine drives so much traffic, many are worrying, panicking, and even calling the update Mobilegeddon (a not-so-clever play on the terms Mobile and Armageddon).

Is that your site Mobile Friendly ? Test It Here
How it will affect ?

This means that people who use Google to search on their smartphone may not find many of their favorite sites at the top of the rankings. Sites that haven't updated could find themselves ranked way lower, which in turn could mean a huge loss of business

So who all uses a mobile for Searching?

  • 46% of Searchers Now Use Mobile Exclusively to Research
  • New Google research says that 50 percent of mobile users are most likely to visit after conducting a local search, while 34 percent of consumers on tablets or computers will go to a store.

Separate SEO URL words with a hyphen, or an underscore?

The recurring question in SEO URLs is whether to use a hyphen, or dash, (these-are-hyphens) or an underscore (these_are_underscores) to separate your words. Does Google recognize both of them as word separators?

The short answer is that you should use a hyphen for your SEO URLs. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator, but does not treat an underscore that way. Google treats and underscore as a word joiner so red_sneakers is the same as redsneakers to Google. This has been confirmed directly by Google themselves, including the fact that using dashes over underscores will have a (minor) ranking benefit.

Again, SEO URLs should use hyphens to separate words. Do not use underscores, do not try to use spaces, and do not smash all the words together intoonebigword. As of 2012, dashes are still the best way to optimize your SEO URLs.

 SEO is growing field in India and hence getting job in SEO is easier than compared to web developer jobs. SEO Salary in India and Job opportunities are growing day by day as company and business owners are becoming aware of Internet industry and its importance for marketing the product. As per my knowledge SEO salary in India is better than web developer.
Many Company gives you good designation and try to negotiate with salary. Never think much of designation while availing new job or while increment rather concentrate more on Salary as money is what will buy bread and butter for you and your family .
I would recommend to start your SEO career with at least 2 agency job and than opt for in house SEO company.  SEO agency will have lot of work as well as mental pressure but this will make you a big player in industry and also salary of SEO agency in India is also better as compared to in house jobs.
