What is the ‘Lock Incognito Tabs’ feature?
Well, this is a new privacy feature of Google Chrome that lets you lock your opened Incognito tabs behind Face ID or Touch ID biometric authentication feature.
The new feature applies an additional layer of security for the Incognito tabs. When you enable this feature, the Incognito tabs will be locked, and the tab preview will be blurred in the tab switcher.
According to Google, the new feature ‘adds more security’ as you multitask across apps. This feature is also useful when letting somebody else use your iPhone. As the other users can’t snoop into your opened incognito tabs.
Steps to Enable Face ID lock for Chrome Incognito tabs on iPhone
Since the feature is still under testing, you need to use Google Chrome beta to enable the feature. The feature is available in Chrome Beta 89 for iOS. After installing the Chrome beta on your iOS, follow the steps given below.
Step 1. First of all, open Google Chrome on your iOS. Next, on the URL bar, enter ‘Chrome://flags’ and hit Enter.
Step 2. On the Experiments page, search for ‘Device Authentication for Incognito.’
Step 3. Find the flag and select ‘Enabled‘ from the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Once done, restart the Chrome web browser on your iPhone.
Step 5. Now head over to Settings > Privacy. There find and enable the ‘Lock Incognito tabs when you close chrome’ option.
That’s it! You are done. The next time you open the Incognito tabs, the browser will ask you to unlock with Face ID. If you wish to disable this feature, you need to select ‘Disabled‘ in Step 3.
