The hopes that driverless cars will soon move from fantasy to reality have lately received a boost with several announcements that reinforce corporate and government interest in related technologies. There might have been several teething issues – for example, a human driver being rear-ended by one of the Google driverless cars – however, R&D funds have continued to come into this sector. Last weekend it was also announced by the U.K. government that it will be pumping $623 million additional funds into a research project on autonomous vehicles with a goal of making the U.K. more inviting for this technology.
